(Sam Raimi, US 1987, 84 min., DCP)
Part remake, part sequel, this cult classic introduced "groovy" to the horror lexicon and firmly established Bruce Campbell as an underground star. Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his girlfriend stumble across The Book of the Dead. Soon, demonic spirits
are once again summoned to their campsite. To survive the night, he'll have to battle unspeakable evil in the form of possessed yuppies, table lamps, and even his own hand. Raimi adds comedy and Three Stooges-style slapstick to the buckets of gore for his tale of unlucky lovers who meet demons in the woods. It's even more fun to see Campbell's Ash get pummeled and splattered this time around, stylishly shot with Sam Raimi's hyperkinetic camera.
