Film Screenings | The Glory of Nitrate

The Glory of Nitrate. This evening of nitrate short films from the museum’s collection can happen in only one place: The Dryden Theatre. One of the few places in the world that can still project the volatile film stock, we celebrate this fact every spring at the Nitrate Picture Show film festival. In this program, we will highlight short films including animation, trailers, documentaries, comedies, silent films, and some of the most glorious color put to film.

The George Eastman Museum has recently acquired the world’s largest collection of contemporary Indian cinema held by a museum or film archive. The collection consists of 774 prints representing 597 film titles, all in 35mm format, made between 1999 and 2013.
