Job Title: Vinegar Films Intern (July-August 2025)
Department: Moving Image Department
Reports To: Deborah Stoiber, Collection Manager
Status: Unpaid, approximately 15 hours per week, 8 weeks

Responsibilities:
- Assisting staff in identifying and documenting acetate films affected by vinegar syndrome using
acid-detection papers - Completing inspection reports and cataloging entries under supervision
- Participating in check-ins with the Collection Manager to review progress
- Gaining exposure to the museum’s cataloging systems and data entry protocols
- Becoming familiar with the day-to-day environment of a moving image archive, including safe
handling of deteriorating film materials
Environment and Conditions:
The internship will be carried out primarily within the museum’s cold storage vaults (40°F / 4°C),
with some workspaces including moderate to light noise. Some exposure to acetate fumes, cleaning
fluids, and solvents may occur. Tasks may include standing, walking, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.,
pushing/pulling, and handling film materials.
Eligibility and Requirements:
This internship is open only to individuals who meet all of the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled in a degree- or certificate-granting institution, including undergraduate and
graduate students, and recent graduates who are enrolled in another degree or certificate program
beginning within six months - Pursuing coursework in film preservation, film studies, library science, archival studies,
conservation, or related fields - Available to participate on-site between July and August 2025
- Experience with condition assessment or archival film materials is helpful but not required. This
opportunity is intended to support educational and professional development.
Work Schedule:
Interns are encouraged to work approximately 15 hours per week during regular museum hours
(Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM). The specific schedule will be determined in coordination with
the intern to support flexibility around academic or personal commitments.
