Collections Highlight: Hell’s Angels Premiere Program
A highlight from the Stills, Posters and Paper Collections in the Moving Image Department is this elaborate theater program from the world premiere of Howard Hughes’ film Hell’s Angels, held on May 27, 1930 at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The leather cover is embossed with a scene drawn by Clayton Knight depicting an incident from the First World War of a pilot landing his plane while standing on the wing. Inside are 28 pages of detailed information about the cast, crew, and production, with particular attention paid to the pilots and planes used for the aerial sequences. An extraordinary item!
