Rochester, N.Y., July 14, 2009—The Garden Vibes summer concert series at George Eastman House, marking its 16th year, boasts a variety of Rochester-based bands with international followings in honor of the city of Rochester’s 175th anniversary. Concerts will take the stage in the Townson Terrace Garden in July and August, with an added “Music & A Movie” feature this season. You can dance the night away and enjoy a picnic supper and fun family activities, while at the same time basking in George Eastman’s historic garden and grounds.

Thursday, July 9
Gospel music featuring electric steel guitar and vocals. This group of accomplished guitarists says their instruments are tuned to the key of the Holy Spirit. The Campbell Brothers were raised in the “sacred steel” style, a rare music tradition rooted in the African-American Holiness-Pentecostal church.

Watkins and the Rapiers
Americana folk music with a beat. The band features an eclectic mix of lyrical original songs with strong roots in the jug band, Cajun, folk, country, rock and blues genres. Their instruments include washboard, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, plus keyboard, guitar, bass and percussion.

Energetic 1960s-style rock ‘n’ roll, mixed with sounds of rockabilly, R&B, country, doo-wop and surf music. One critic noted the band could “set off spontaneous beach parties.”

Kate Lee with No Strings Attached
Fiddle and bluegrass, Kate Lee is a Webster teenager who is a fiddler and vocalist, performing songs influenced by Irish, Americana, country and bluegrass genres. She and her band also perform banjo, mandolin, bass.
Concerts are from 6 to 8 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m. All concerts will be held rain or shine. Bring blankets and/or chairs and your own picnic fixings, or purchase concessions on-site from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Abbott’s Frozen Custard and the Eastman House Café. Please note, there will be no cash bar but you may bring your own beverages, plus a variety of non-alcoholic beverages will be sold.
Admission for each concert: $10 adults; $7 members; $5 youths (ages 13–18); and free to ages 12 and under, which includes George Eastman House admission and a variety of children's activities, including games and a bounce house. New this year! Spend the night at Eastman House by combining a concert and film for the special price of $15 general admission/$11 members and students. All screenings are at 8:30 p.m. following the concert (combo ticket good for film concert night only). “Music & A Movie” tickets are available at the Garden Vibes gates on concert nights.
