George Eastman House Announces New Kid-Friendly Matinee Series at Dryden Theatre

Dryden Kids begins on Sunday, March 1 with “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”

Rochester, N.Y., February 26, 2015—

George Eastman House has announced a new ongoing film series focused on children. Dryden Kids, will kick off on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. with a screening of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938, 91 min., 35mm). The film will be preceded by The Sultan’s Jester (1930, 9 min., 35mm), an early Technicolor Vitaphone short that was recently restored by George Eastman House in collaboration with Warner Bros.

Dryden Kids is designed to provide our youngest audiences and their parents with awareness that great entertainment is often also great art, and a remarkable tool for both understanding and finding our way around the world,” said Jurij Meden, Curator of Film Exhibitions, George Eastman House. “We have so many wonderful films in our collection that are perfect for a younger audience, and I am thrilled that the inaugural Dryden Kids screening this weekend is one of our favorites, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.”

Dryden Kids will run once a month on select Sundays at 2 p.m. throughout the year, unless otherwise noted. Tickets for Dryden Kids screenings are $8 for general admission, $6 for members, students, and children 12 years old and under, with a maximum $25 family admission. The Dryden Kids series continues on April 5 with The Wizard of Oz (Victor Fleming, 1939), followed by Kes (Ken Loach, 1969) on May 10, and Good-bye, My Lady (William A. Wellman, 1956) on June 7.
