George Eastman House embraces Valentine's events

Romantic comedies on the Dryden screen plus brunch on Sunday

Rochester, N.Y., January 15, 2009—

Celebrate the Valentine's Day weekend at George Eastman House with a romantic comedy in the Dryden Theatre on Saturday evening, Feb. 14 and also a brunch and film the next day on Sunday, Feb. 15:

8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14
TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT (Howard Hawks, US 1944, 100 min.)
“Sure, you may know how to whistle, but was you ever bit by a dead bee?” Hawks's classic romance/wartime thriller/comedy/musical consistently surprises with its marvelously quirky dialogue (courtesy Jules Furthman and William Faulkner) and unpredictable story. Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall melted many a screen with their chemistry in this '40s film milestone, a masterpiece every bit as memorable as Casablanca. Regular admission prices: $7 general admission/$5 students and members.

11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 15
VALENTINE'S DAY BRUNCH & FILM
The romantic day begins with a catered brunch at 11 a.m. at George Eastman House (doors open at 10:30 a.m.). And at noon you can snuggle in the Dryden Theatre while enjoying the zany comedy MONKEY BUSINESS (Howard Hawks, 1952, 97 min.), where romance goes bananas for stars Cary Grant, Ginger Rogers, Charles Coburn, and Marilyn Monroe. Admission for the brunch and film is $27.50. For information and tickets, call (585) 271-3361 ext. 290 (brunch reservations requested by Feb. 12). The event is sponsored by the Eastman House Council, with all proceeds benefiting George Eastman House.

Noon film screening: Tickets to the film only can be purchased at the door: $7 general admission/$5 students and members. For more information about the film, please call (585) 271-3361 or visit dryden.eastmanhouse.org.
