A Dryden film series, Jack Garner’s award predictions, and a pair of special screenings at Kodak Center
Rochester, N.Y., January 23, 2018—The George Eastman Museum will be celebrating the 90th Academy Awards with a 23-film series at the Dryden through April, a special event with Jack Garner on February 16 discussing his award winner predictions, and a day of past Best Picture winners screening at Kodak Center on March 3.
90 Years of Academy Awards Film Series
In 1929, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented the 1st Academy Awards, a ceremony that quickly grew to become the global standard for measuring artistic and technical excellence in film industry. To honor the 90th award ceremony, the Dryden Theatre is presenting a series of 23 titles spread over seven decades, all 35mm film prints from the museum’s own collection, and all winners of at least three and up to eleven different Academy Awards. The series, which began at the beginning of the year, ranges from Cimarron (1931), the fourth ever Best Picture and one of the very few westerns to win that top Oscar, to Schindler’s List (1993), Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece and arguably one of Academy’s finest moments in recent history.
