Rochester, N.Y., June 3, 2015—The fifth annual George Eastman House Photo Finish 5K will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2015. With a great course through Rochester’s Neighborhood of the Arts, the run/walk is open to all—from competitive runners and people using wheelchairs, to casual joggers, dedicated walkers, and entire families.
Also called "The Philanthropy Challenge," the race aims to raise funds for George Eastman House as well as other nonprofit organizations that make Rochester a great place to live and work. The Photo Finish 5k embodies both George Eastman’s philanthropic spirit and his ideals of wellness and health. Eastman often used his philanthropy to encourage others to give, resulting in the creation of Rochester’s United Way and Red Cross chapters, as well as Strong Memorial Hospital. The George Eastman House to date is responsible for the preserving of old film and the shaping of minds. Between diverse photography workshops and educational programs offered in film preservation, Eastman house takes pride in teaching many generations how the understanding of media can enrich life.
The 5K route—which is certified to be accurate by USA Track & Field—begins and ends at Eastman House. It includes the Neighborhood of the Arts and ArtWalk, and passes by Rochester landmarks—many built or supported by George Eastman.
How can several organizations benefit from one event?
The Photo Finish 5K allows nonprofit organizations and individuals to raise money for any 501(c)(3) organization of their choice, including George Eastman House. The Photo Finish 5K is unique in the sense that runners can join multiple teams, raising money for many diverse causes. As a result, over the past four years the race has been in existence, more than one million dollars has been raised for Rochester area organizations. The registration fees help to benefit Eastman House, but participants can choose to raise additional money for the Eastman House by joining the Eastman House team.
The Rochester-area organizations that benefited from last year’s donations, include but are not limited to the Rochester Philharmonic, Hochstein School of Music and Dance, Rochester Civic Garden Center, ABVI-Goodwill, Susan B. Anthony House, Seneca Park Zoo, Ronald McDonald House, Nativity Preparatory Academy, CASA of Rochester, and Genesee Center for Arts and Education.
