The Bad and the Beautiful

Wednesday, March 20, 2019, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Vincente Minnelli, US 1952, 118 min., 35mm)

Movies in the Movies | Free Member Movie. In this Academy Award–winning film by American master Vincente Minnelli, Kirk Douglas supplies “the bad,” while Lana Turner, in one of her finest performances, provides “the beautiful.” Douglas is hotshot movie producer Jonathan Shields, a nasty individual who claws his way up through the studio system, doing whatever to whomever. Through flashbacks, we witness the experiences of a director (Barry Sullivan), a writer (Dick Powell), and an actress (Turner) with the vicious Shields, as Minnelli paints a disturbing portrait of Tinseltown. Free to members.
