Budapest Noir

Saturday, July 14, 2018, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Director: Éva Gárdos | Narrative Hungary | 2017 | 94 min. | Hungarian - w/ subtitles)

RJFF. A beautiful young woman is found dead in 1936 Budapest and no one wants to investigate - except Zsigmond Gordon, a crime reporter who has a gut feeling that things are not what they seem. Gordon’s investigation leads him deep into the city’s dark underbelly, a shady world of pornographers, fixers, boxing rings, seedy brothels, powerful crime syndicates and Communists. Ultimately, it leads to the highest echelons of power and to an influential businessman who plans to profit from his political ties to Germany’s leadership. Standing between the businessman and his fortune however, is the fact that he’s Jewish.
