Warner Bros. Animation. Chuck Jones was instrumental in creating the look and feel of Warner Bros. animation, and he went on to produce Tom and Jerry shorts in the 1960s, as well as the classic 1966 television adaptation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Here, we revisit some of his Warner high points with The Ducksters (1950), Little Beau Pepe (1952), Rabbit Seasoning (1952), Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century (1953), No Barking (1954), One Froggy Evening (1955), There They Go-Go-Go (1956), What’s Opera, Doc? (1957), and Robin Hood Daffy (1958). We will also highlight Daffy Duck in Holiday for Drumsticks (Arthur Davis, 1949), Stupor Duck (Robert McKimson, 1956), and A Star Is Bored (Friz Freleng, 1956).

Warner Bros. Animation

Ninety years after its beginnings, the animation of the Warner Bros. studio still resonates with audiences today. The characters of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and others are familiar to everyone, but the artists behind these influential works are sometimes forgotten, as is the intense amount of labor required to bring these characters to the screen. In connection with the exhibition The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons, opening at the George Eastman Museum on June 28, the Dryden Theatre presents three programs of shorts from the peak years of Warner Bros. animation, highlighting not only our beloved characters, but some of the best artists who brought them to life.
