Filmmaking at 80 | Member Movie. Renowned director, screenwriter, and actor John Huston added two more Oscar nominations to his previous thirteen with his final film, The Dead. An adaptation of a short story by James Joyce, The Dead is a comedy-drama starring Anjelica Huston (John’s daughter), as Gretta Conroy, alongside Donal McCann as her husband, Gabriel Conroy, in Dublin in 1904. Attending an Epiphany party, the two have epiphanies of their own, as Gretta reveals memories of a dead lover from her youth. John Huston directed The Dead from a wheelchair, and the film was released posthumously in a final and poignant contemplation of life and love. Free to all George Eastman Museum members.
