In a near future where melting ice caps have covered large sections of the American coast, a tight-knit community lives on the water at the mouth of the Mississippi Delta. Six-year-old Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis) and her father, Wink (Dwight Henry), live a hardscrabble life in “the Bathtub,” scavenging, farming, and fishing to survive. When Wink falls ill, and the freedom of the Bathtub’s residents is threatened, Hushpuppy finds it within herself to mount a mission to find her mother while avoiding the threats unleashed by the flood.
