Blow Out

Tuesday, April 23, 2019, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Brian De Palma, US 1981, 108 min., 35mm)

Movies in the Movies. Not all films are made to be seen. John Travolta plays Jack Terry, a sound effects technician on a low-budget horror film. While collecting ambient sounds for a film, he witnesses a car careening off a cliff, killing the driver. He helps the passenger get to the hospital and later discovers that his microphone may have picked up evidence of foul play. When his audio is paired with stills taken by a bystander, the evidence seems irrefutable, and Terry is drawn into a political conspiracy involving a psychopathic hitman. De Palma remakes Michelangelo Antonioni’s Blow-Up, by way of Hitchcock.
