Eastman Entertains. One year after the success of Fred Zinnemann’s Oklahoma!, Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones were reunited for another musical, Carousel, adapted once again from Rodgers and Hammerstein. Carousel tells the story of Billy, dead for fifteen years and living “above.” He wishes to have permission to go down to Earth for one day, to make amends for past mistakes. But before his request is approved, he has to convince the gatekeeper by telling him the story of his life. Carousel was shot in radiant Technicolor and is accompanied by an acclaimed musical score.
