Dances with Wolves

Friday, August 26, 2016, 8 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Kevin Costner, US/UK 1999, 180 min.)

National Parks. A film rich in mythic themes, boldly dramatizing the transformation of a man who strays from the traditional path of accepted behavior into the unknown to find his true self. Producer/director Kevin Costner plays a Union officer during the Civil War who comes to earn the trust and respect of the Sioux, his dark outlook invigorated by their rich culture and down-to-earth lifestyle. The film was a critical darling, winning seven Oscars and netting Best Director honors for Costner. Shot mostly in the Badlands National Park, South Dakota.
