(Erica Tremblay, US 2023, 90 min., DCP)

Starring Lily Gladstone, Academy Award nominee for Killers of the Flower Moon, this drama is Erica Tremblay’s feature debut, after writing and directing for Reservation Dogs. Jax (Gladstone) has been taking care of her niece, Roki (Isabel DeRoy-Olson), since her mother’s most recent disappearance. Getting by mostly by stealing cars, when they are confronted by child protective services, Roki is placed with her white grandfather due to Jax’s questionable past. Stealing Roki back, she and Jax set out on a dangerous road trip to the Oklahoma City powwow, hoping to meet back up with Roki’s mother. The film also features Tamara Podemski and Shea Whigham in supporting roles.
