Mekko (DCP) - Free to All!

Friday, November 13, 2026, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Sterlin Harjo, US 2015, 87 min., DCP)

Before creating Reservation Dogs and The Lowdown, Sterlin Harjo wrote and directed this drama of post-incarcertation reintegration. Mekko (Rod Rondeaux) is released from prison after having served nineteen years for killing his cousin. He was known in his family as a seer and has visions of his own death. Ostracized by his family, Mekko winds up on the street, where he reconnects with people from his past, including Bunnie (Wotko Long), who takes him under his wing. When the unhoused community is bullied by a manipulative drug dealer, Mekko sees him as a witch, leading to the inevitable confrontation that he knows is coming. The film also features Zahn McClarnon and Sarah Podemski, who Harjo would later work with on Reservation Dogs.

DCP from Crazy Eagle Media.
