The Mirror Crack’d (35mm)

Friday, April 11, 2025, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Guy Hamilton, UK 1980, 105 min., 35mm)

This film stars no less than three actors born in 1925 - Angela Lansbury, Tony Curtis, and Rock Hudson. Based on the Agatha Christie mystery and updated from the ‘60s to the ‘80s, it concerns a murder that takes place in a small English village when a Hollywood film crew descends on it to shoot yet another version of the story of Elizabeth I. The film is to star aging actress Marina Gregg-Rudd (Elizabeth Taylor) at the behest of her director husband, Jason (Hudson). The fireworks start flying when rival actress Lola Brewster (Kim Novak) appears to play the role of Mary, Queen of Scots, but everything grinds to a halt when one of the townsfolk falls dead at a reception. Miss Marple (Lansbury) is on the case to discover who could possibly want the woman dead. Directed by Guy Hamilton, veteran of four James Bond films.
