Souleymane’s Story

Friday, September 12, 2025, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(L’histoire de Souleymane, Boris Lojkine, France 2024, 93 min., DCP, French, Fulah, and Malinka with English subtitles)

Set in Paris, this award-winning, fast-paced thriller is a compassionate account of a young Guinean asylum seeker, Souleymane (Abou Sangaré).  He struggles to meet the merciless demands of his food delivery cycling gig, his fellow immigrant cheats, and the French immigration bureaucracy, all while simultaneously preparing for his make-or-break interview for legal residency.  Sangaré, himself an actual asylum seeker and first-time actor, won the 2024 Best Actor award in the Cannes Un Certain Regard, and received legal status in France only after the film opened.
