The Waltz Dream (35mm)

Tuesday, November 25, 2025, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Ein Waltzertraum, Ludwig Berger, Germany 1925, 77 min., 35mm)

Inspired by Oscar Strauss’s operetta of the same name, The Waltz Dream tells a tale of unrequited love and arranged marriages in the court of a fictional European country. Count Preyn (Willy Fritsch) is trapped into a marriage with the cold, unemotional Princess Alix (Mady Christians). But on their wedding night, he wanders off and into an orchestra conducted by Franzi (Xenia Desni), whom he immediately falls for. A romance ensues, with Franzi unaware that she is falling in love with the Prince consort. At the same time, she is engaged to teach the Princess the modern arts, the better to woo her husband back to her.

Live piano accompaniment by Dr. Philip Carli.
