For four days in late 1999, ministers of 135 countries convened in Seattle Washington for multilateral trade negotiations of the World Trade Organization. Across those same four days, more than 40,000 people converged on the downtown site in an effort to protest the WTO and its impacts on the environment, human rights, and labor in what became the largest protests against economic globalization the U.S. had ever seen. The protests brought together people from divergent sections of society — anarchists, environmentalists, labor unions, consumer protection advocates, pro-democracy groups, and even religious organizations. Culled from 1,000 hours of footage, hundreds of which had never been seen before, this boots-on-the-ground documentary dramatizes the real-world mobilization of the voice of the people in opposition to corporate and governmental steamrolling.
