Gregory Halpern: Picturing Place

Thursday, January 25, 2024, 6 p.m., Dryden Theatre

Internationally acclaimed, Rochester-based artist Gregory Halpern returns to the Wish You Were Here series on the occasion of his exhibition Gregory Halpern: 19 winters / 7 springs, on display in the Project Gallery through March 3, 2024. The result of two decades of grappling with the idea of his hometown of Buffalo, the exhibition is a profound rumination on history, the passage of time, the experience of contemporary life, and, above all, what it means to dwell in a particular place.

For his Wish You Were Here lecture, Halpern will reflect on this body of work in light of his other projects that have looked at the complexity of places as disparate as Southern California, Omaha, Nebraska, and the Caribbean archipelago of Guadeloupe.

Following the talk there will be a book signing and the exhibition 19 winters / 7 springs will be open for exploration in the Project Gallery.

Tickets are recommended to be purchased in advance, but will also available at the door.

The Wish You Were Here series is generously supported by Thomas N. Tischer, PhD.
