The museum’s South Asian collection is composed largely of films from the first decade of the century, a time when the Indian film industry was seeing a large expansion to other countries. As part of our ongoing efforts to bring these films to our big screen, this fall we take our audiences back to the dawn of the millennium, exploring some of the earliest films in the collection. Featuring stars such as Shabana Azmi, Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Preita Zinty, Shah Rukh Khan, and Kareena Kapoor, across drama, action, and epic, these films take us back a quarter century - and further - to a time when the world was just beginning to discover the world’s largest film industry.
