Silent Tuesdays. As sound became a primary tool for filmmakers of the 1930s, fast-talking reporters and gangsters became a staple. In this film, Joseph Schildkraut is the reporter who links gangster Edward G. Robinson to a double murder and payroll robbery. When Robinson vows revenge, it’s a race against time to make sure that Schildkraut’s wife remains safe. Preceded by W. C. Fields’s first sound short that captures his popular Ziegfeld Follies sketch in which a con-man attempts to teach a hotel house detective’s wife how to play golf.
