(Robert Mulligan, US 1962, 128 min., 35mm)
Special Presentation. Robert Mulligan’s film of Harper Lee’s novel is nearly as beloved as its source. In his career defining role, Gregory Peck is Atticus Finch, a lawyer living in 1930s Alabama who defends a black man wrongly accused of raping a white girl. The subsequent events play out from the point of view of his young daughter Scout. Nominated for eight Academy Awards, including a win for Peck’s performance, it was also the film debut of Robert Duvall as the mysterious Boo Radley.
Special screening prior to Geva Theatre’s staging of the same novel (February 16–March 20).
