Late Spring

Wednesday, April 6, 2016, 8 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Banshun, Yasujiro Ozu, Japan 1949, 108 min., 35mm, Japanese w/subtitles)

An aging professor realizes that it is time for his daughter (Setsuko Hara) to move on and start a family of her own. An insightful look at postwar Japan, Late Spring reminds its characters and the audience of the changing world and the harsh reality that one cannot stay home forever. Ozu’s minimalist plot takes emotion to a new level; making even the task of cutting an apple exude feeling.
