(Clint Eastwood, US 1971, 102 min., 35mm)
Eastwood as Director. Eastwood’s first directorial effort is a thriller that puts him in a more vulnerable position than his previous star-making performances would allow. Dave Garver (Eastwood) is a womanizing disc jockey with an ex-girlfriend and a devoted fan, Evelyn Draper (Jessica Walter), who calls him every night to request “Misty” by Erroll Garner. Following a not-so-accidental tryst, Dave tries to reconnect with his girlfriend, who is still unsure about his wandering ways. Meanwhile, Evelyn starts appearing at Dave’s house unannounced, and becomes enraged when his attentions lie elsewhere. Her pursuit becomes more threatening, leaving Dave to wonder whether he can keep both himself and his girlfriend safe.
