(Alfred Hitchcock, US 1940, 130 min., 35mm)
Nitrate Picture Show Festival Favorite | New Year’s Eve Dinner & A Movie. The hit of the 5th Nitrate Picture Show, the George Eastman Museum’s own nitrate print of Rebecca packed the house in May. In anticipation of the 6th edition of the festival in June 2020, come see this vintage print, made on the flammable stock that was manufactured just until 1951. As the only nitrate-equipped projection booth in the United States outside of California, the Dryden Theatre provides a rare opportunity to see original pieces of artwork from the history of cinema. Hitchcock’s first American film is adapted from Daphne DuMaurier’s novel and features outstanding performances from Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, and Dame Judith Anderson.
