(Imtiaz Ali, India 2011, 159 min., 35mm, Hindi w/subtitles)

Bollywood and Beyond!. With music by Academy Award–winning composer and songwriter A. R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire), Rockstar is considered to be the best film of director Imtiaz Ali. Janardan Jakhar JJ (Ranbir Kapoor) has musical talent, but he believes “music comes from a broken heart”—and because of his middle-class upbringing, he thinks he hasn’t suffered enough pain to be really great. Convinced by his buddies to go see Heer Kaul (Nargis Fakhri) dance “a heartbreaker,” he transforms from an innocent young man to an angry rockstar. This film takes us from Delhi, Kashmir, Mumbai, and Dharamsala, India, to Prague.
