Runaway Bride

Saturday, June 1, 2019, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Garry Marshall, US 1999, 116 min., 35mm)

Julia Roberts. Julia Roberts and Richard Gere reteam with Pretty Woman director Garry Marshall in this story of Maggie Carpenter, who has already left three men at the altar. Ike Graham, who has published an article about her, has been fired for not checking his sources, but is offered a second chance with the real story. Ike visits Maggie, who is now on her fourth engagement. Of course, they butt heads—Maggie despises him for writing a false story, and Ike is trying to expose her for the misandrist he believes her to be. In talking to Maggie’s relatives and neighbors, however, Ike realizes they have given up on her finding happiness, and he begins to have a change of heart.
