War, Myth, Desire. Civil War veteran Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returns to his brother’s Texas ranch, hoping to settle down with his family and the woman he loves. But a Comanche raid destroys these plans: the ranch is burned to the ground, his family is massacred, and his niece (Natalie Wood) is kidnapped. Vowing to bring her back and kill every last Comanche, Ethan and his nephew set out on an epic five-year journey, filmed with the artistry of composition that made Ford a master and this film a milestone.
