The Wheels of Chance

Sunday, November 10, 2019, 2 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Harold M. Shaw, UK 1922, 82 min., 35mm)

Live Accompaniment | New Score. Accompanied by a brand-new score composed by Philip Carli for three pieces, this fun British romance-adventure is based upon a lesser-known comic novel by H. G. Wells. Humble draper’s assistant Mr. Hoopdriver has taken enough bike-riding lessons to attempt to take his holiday on the road. Meanwhile, young socialite Jessie Milton dreams of a free life away from her stepmother and accepts an offer from Mr. Bechamel, who has longer-term plans in mind. As the two lovers cross paths, Hoopdriver attempts to rescue Jessie, win her heart, and be back at work after holiday.

Live accompaniment on piano, cello, and woodwind, conducted by Dr. Philip C. Carli.
