Exploring Animation: Celebrating Animation in our Community and Collection

Saturday, February 10, 2024, 2 p.m., Dryden Theatre

Come celebrate Rochester International Academy students in their success of the exhibition, Exploring Animation: Rochester International Academy Phenakistoscope Discovery Project. The students' work is currently on display in the museum's Gallery Obscura.

Experience a screening of students’ animated phenakistoscope discs in recognition of their talent and hard work. Hear from Tom Gasek, award-winning stop motion director and animator about his creative process. Tom Gasek is an award-winning stop motion director and animator with animation credits that include, Aardman Animations “The Wrong Trousers” and “Chicken Run”, Laika’s “Coraline” and his own “Ain’t No Fish.” He taught in The School of Film and Animation at RIT.

Then, Curator of Film Exhibitions Jared Case will highlight a selection of early animated films from the Eastman Museum’s own collection.
