BlaxploItalian: 100 Years of Blackness in Italian Cinema

Survey of Contemporary Italian Cinema | Filmmaker in Person| Rochester Premiere. Blaxploitalian is a documentary about the role of actors of African descent throughout the history of Italian cinema, beginning with the first black artist to appear uncredited in the 1915 Italian film Salambò, directed by Domenico Gaido. Italian-Ghanaian filmmaker Fred Kuwornu offers a unique insight into the reality of African-Italian and African diasporic actors working in the Italian entertainment industry.

Presented by Dr. Elisabetta Sanino D’Amanda, Italian Program Coordinator, Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), with the support of the College of Liberal Arts and Dr. Keith Jenkins, Vice President and Associate Provost for Diversity & Inclusion, RIT.
