A Double Life

Monday, June 20, 2016, 1:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(George Cukor, US 1947, 104 min., 35mm)

Senior Matinee. Ronald Colman won an Oscar for his portrayal of a stage actor who can no longer differentiate between the real and the theatrical. As he assumes the role of Othello on stage, his off-stage life begins to take on eerie similarities, and murderous motivations come to light when Colman discovers that jealousy is the key to his character. A fascinating study of the duality of performance and the burgeoning “method” movement, the film is complemented by an amazing Miklós Rózsa score.
