(John Brahm, US 1947, 72 min., 16mm)
Twentieth Century-Fox capitalized on the popularity of Raymond Chandler by adapting The High Window, with Western star George Montgomery as Philip Marlowe. On the trail of a missing coin (the doubloon of the title), Marlowe falls for a personal secretary while running afoul of a local nightclub owner. As the search continues, blackmail and murder come into play, putting Marlowe in the center of it all, leading to a surprising conclusion revealing the truth through a newsreel film!
Post-film discussion with Curator of Film Exhibitions Jared Case.
