Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia

Wednesday, July 2, 2025, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Sam Peckinpah, US 1974, 112 min., DCP)

"I think I can feel Sam Peckinpah's heart beating and head pounding in every frame." (Roger Ebert). A rich Mexican warlord offers one million dollars for the head of Alfredo Garcia, the man who's impregnated his daughter. Alongside the vicious band of bounty hunters that's unleashed is Bennie (the great Warren Oates, commanding in a rare lead performance), a barkeep and piano player who also sets his sights on Garcia's skull and a hefty reward. In what is possibly Peckinpah's most personal exploration of machismo, a seedy journey emerges that is fraught with mythical overtones. The supporting cast includes Gig Young, Robert Webber, and, as two vicious bikers, Kris Kristofferson and musician Donnie Fritts.
