(Edward Sedgwick, US 1928, 67 min., DCP)
In what is widely thought of as his final masterpiece, Buster Keaton stars as an ambitious newsreel cameraman involved in a series of movie-related hijinks. Featuring some of his most praised setpieces and outlandish stunts, this silent comedy classic is also perhaps Keaton’s most personal love letter to cinema. Keaton falls for the radiant Marceline Day, who works for MGM, where he becomes determined to find employment. Spending his very last dollar, a hopeful Keaton picks up a secondhand newsreel camera and sets out to capture the world's wonders. Stepping onto the field at Yankee Stadium, Keaton's sure that this will be his big break, but there's a slight problem: there's not a ballplayer, or a fan in sight.
