Robert Downey, Jr. made his stage debut in Rochester in a production of Stewart Hample’s Alms for the Middle Class at Geva Theatre in 1983. Nine years later, he was an Academy Award-nominated actor for his performance as the legendary silent comedian in this biographical film. Looking back on his life while preparing for his biography in 1957, Charlie Chaplin recalls his life, from his destitute life with his mother and brother in late-19th century England, to the stage work where he developed his craft, to his discovery and success in motion pictures, where he became one of its true original artists. A touching tribute to the life and work of Charlie Chaplin, the film also received Oscar nominations for its Art Direction and the stirring score by John Barry.
