(Howard Hawks, US 1936, 99 min., 16mm)
Only a year after publication, Edna Ferber’s latest novel was turned into a romantic drama by master director Howard Hawks. Another multi-generational story, Come and Get It follows ruthless lumber baron Barney Glasgow (Edward Arnold) who shuns his true affection for saloon singer Lotta Morgan (Frances Farmer) to marry Emma Louise Hewitt (Mary Nash), the boss’s daughter, to secure a future partnership. Years later, when Glasgow meets Lotta’s daughter, he becomes entranced and struggles with her feelings toward his own son (Joel McCrea).
