Spencer Tracy stars in this satirical film on the rites of matrimony as a lawyer who copes with one emergency after another as daughter (Elizabeth Taylor) prepares to walk down the aisle. With Father of the Bride, Vincente Minnelli (An American in Paris, Gigi, The Band Wagon) created a timeless comedy that inspired its own TV series and a popular 1991 remake with Steve Martin.
