Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Alain Resnais, France/Japan 1959, 90 min., 35mm, French and Japanese with English subtitles)

Hiroshima Mon Amour, the first feature by Alain Resnais, is one of the most influential films of all time and a masterwork of the French New Wave. A French actress (Emmanuelle Riva) and a Japanese architect (Eiji Okada) develop a brief, intense affair in postwar Hiroshima, which brings forth memories of love and suffering. With a creative flashback structure and an Academy Award–nominated screenplay by Marguerite Duras, this groundbreaking film artfully interweaves past and present.
