(Don Siegel, US 1956, 80 min., 35mm)
Jack Finney’s iconic science fiction novel is brought to life by director Don Siegel in a slightly wider on-screen frame. Dr. Miles Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) is inundated by claims that close relatives and friends have changed their personality, no longer acting like themselves. While investigating these claims, Bennell is convinced of a mass hysteria event until his friends discover a partially formed figure in their basement that suggests something more other-worldly.
This film was shot in SuperScope, a process that produced anamorphic prints from a “flat” negative, resulting in an aspect ratio of 2:1.
