(Norman Foster, US 1948, 79 min., 16mm)
Burt Lancaster plays Bill Saunders, a veteran with a trauma-based violent streak. When he accidentally kills a man in a pub and flees from the police, he breaks into the apartment of Jane Wharton (Joan Fontaine), a lonely nurse and war widow. Their relationship grows as they get to know each other, but Bill is pulled back into a life of crime through blackmail, putting their love and loyalty to the test. Noir fixture Miklos Rosza provides the lovely music.
