French actress Leslie Caron followed her sensational film debut in An American in Paris with this charming little story about an orphan named Lili who joins a carnival and becomes infatuated with an amiable, though somewhat roguish, magician. Although spurned by the magician, Lili is secretly adored by a crippled puppeteer who helps her through her bleakest hours. The dancing and musical numbers are as sweet and lyrical as the story itself, and Zsa Zsa Gabor turns in a sparkling performance as the magician's assistant.
