In this late silent from director Frank Borzage, the Romantic poet of Golden-Age Hollywood filmmaking, Janet Gaynor plays Mary, a poor farm girl who falls in love with a WWI veteran (Charles Farrell) who's returned from the front unable to use his legs. But as their love begins to flower, Mary's mother matches her daughter to another veteran who has returned unscathed. Gaynor and Farrell are emblems of Borzage's abiding view that love transcends all of life's struggles. The last film of the successful collaboration between Gaynor and Borzage.
