(Jonathan Demme, US 1988, 104 min., 35mm)
Angela DeMarco (Michelle Pfeiffer) married into a Mafia family, not realizing that she’d have stacks of boxes of electronics in her dining room and that her days would be filled with obligations to dinners and card games with “the family.” She sees a chance to get out when her husband, “Cucumber” Frank DeMarco, is assassinated during an extramarital tryst. But when mob boss Tony “The Tiger” Russo (Dean Stockwell) makes a pass at her, she sparks the ire of the other family wives, and Angela goes on the run. Despite this, both Tony and FBI agent Mike Downey (Matthew Modine) find her, one to woo her, the other to arrest her. When Mike starts to have feelings for Angela and realizes she’s trying to get out, they hatch a plan that ends with an explosive climax in a Miami hotel. Stockwell earned the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance.
