Philip Seymour Hoffman’s final film role was this slow-burn spy thriller from author John le Carré. Hoffman plays Günther Bachmann, the Hamburg station chief of the Border Protection Group. He has been on the money trail of a group of terrorists who infiltrated his network in Beirut and killed several of his agents. When a Russian expatriate seems to try to collect millions of Euros from a dead gangster, Günther enacts a complex sting operation to determine his true motives, hoping it leads him to confirm his suspicions. The stellar cast also includes Rachel McAdams, Willem Dafoe, Robin Wright, Daniel Brühl, Nina Hoss, and Vicky Krieps.
